Sugaring

It might sound like baking, but sugaring is actually a method of hair removal. Similar to waxing, sugaring removes body hair by quickly pulling the hair from the root. The name for this method comes from the paste itself, which consists of lemon, water, and sugar. The ingredients are all heated together until it reaches a candy-like consistency. Sugar waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC. Historically, sugar was confined to the regions surrounding Persia until the first millennium AD. It has since migrated all over the world as a more effective and less painful way to remove hair.

  • How does sugaring work?
    First the sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth coating each hair and then removed in the direction of hair growth in a flicking motion. Large amounts of hair can be taken off at the same time and areas can be finished faster than wax. This treatment is less painful and less damaging to the skin than wax.
  • What do I need to do prior to my removal service?
    Exfoliating the night/morning before your service is known to help reduce irritation.
  • Will sugaring hurt?
    The sugar itself does not adhere to the surface of the skin. This means when we remove the paste, we do not have that ripping effect that waxing does. We are still removing the hair from the root of the follicle, so it is not pain free, but many say it is less painful than typical waxing.
  • How long does my hair need to be?
    The hair needs to be about a weeks' worth of growth. There is no such thing as the hair being too long, we just get into trouble if the hair is too short.
  • Can I get a removal if I am on my cycle?
    You absolutely can! The sugar is very gentle on the skin, allowing us to do removals even when you are in a cycle.
  • How do I prepare for sugaring?
    Come to your appointment with clean skin. Avoid lotions or oil prior to sugaring. Avoid exfoliating 3 days prior to your appointment. The sugar needs your dead skin cells to remove the hair properly. For the best experiences we recommend at least two weeks of hair growth, but the more hair the better!
  • What do I do after my sugaring appointment?
    Moisturize daily with a natural moisturizer. Do not exfoliate at all for the first 3 days after your treatment. After the first 3 days, it is safe to exfoliate every 2-3 days. Gym and any workout routine can be continued right after since no live skin will be open.
